In the beginning there was only the old but reliable machine with the Siemens S7-300 and the slowly dissolving display, which nobody could (or wanted to) operate anymore. "Make a new one but don't incur any costs!" This was more or less the message given by the technical manager to the young technician Julian Werner at a medium-sized automotive supplier. The solution, like all good solutions, was quite simple and yet amazed everyone. Using the free INSEVIS visualization tool for S7 CPUs "VisuStage", Julian Werner created a 10" visualization on the PC, compiled it and loaded it into a standard Windows tablet that was on hand. This was then opened with a second free INSEVIS tool "RemoteStage" and connected to the existing S7-300 in the machine. The modern 10" visualization was ready with no runtime license costs and no limit on the number of PowerTags. And because it was such a success, there was also a permanently installable 10" HMI from INSEVIS for a small fee, which is operated as a second panel on the existing S7-300.
