Energy-optimized compressed air supply in welding powder production

The Wolff engineering office had to significantly optimize the energy efficiency of a customer's compressed air supply. The base-peak load ratio of 1:10, a constant pressure for the conveyor systems and the use of waste heat for heating all had to be met. To do this, existing compressors were converted to speed control via Profinet frequency converters, air flow measurement was integrated to record consumption via Modbus RTU and an energy measurement was integrated for each of 3 compressors. For this purpose, an INSEVIS panel PLC and decentralized peripheral station were used for the first time. All interfaces and IO modules were delivered pre-assembled and connected quickly and cost-effectively with system cabling. The new trend and logging functions have significantly accelerated the optimization of the control loops. Trend archives and message archives can be read out at any time via the network and evaluated in the spreadsheet. Multiple remote control via VNC and Remotestage has also been implemented. INSEVIS does not charge any license fees for this. The customer was very satisfied and is now working with the Wolff engineering office on a long-term basis. This means energy is reused and costs are saved. A win-win situation for profitability and sustainability and, above all, reliable delivery!
