Energy savings are necessary and therefore the order of the day everywhere. How easy it is with the INSEVIS S7 panel PLCs is shown by a project carried out by IB Wolff at Oerlikon Schweißtechnik. The aim here was to convert the compressors to speed control via Profinet using a frequency converter and to regulate this using air flow measurement and consumption recording connected via Modbus RTU as well as an integrated energy measurement for three compressors. The networking in the machine network and simultaneous connection to remote access require two separate IP networks. Of course, current and archive data should be displayed on a remote PC monitor. The decision was made to use a very compact 7" S7 panel PLC with onboard I/Os from INSEVIS, which already has all interfaces integrated and requires very little space. The result: Project manager Daniel Philipp was delighted with the implementation.
